What are Bendroflumethiazide Tablets?
 

Bendroflumehiazide tablets belong to a group of medicines known as thiazide diuretics (water tablets). This medication is usually used in combination with other medications to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
 

How does Bendroflumethiazide work as a treatment for High Blood Pressure?

Bendroflumethiazide works by reducing the amount of fluid your body retains. These tablets make you pass more urine, they remove fluid from your body, which lowers your blood pressure levels and makes it easier for your heart to pump your blood through your body. 

What is High Blood Pressure?
 

High blood pressure is added workload to the heart and arteries. If this added  pressure continues for a long period of time, the heart and arteries may not function properly. This can damage the blood vessels of the brain, heart, and kidneys, resulting in a stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. High blood pressure may also increase the risk of heart attacks. With controlled treatment of high blood pressure these problems may be less likely to occur.

Emergency supply of Bendroflumethiazide:

Bendroflumethiazide is a prescription only medicine and an Emergency Supply can only be issued if you are currently being prescribed this medication by your GP for high blood pressure.  You will need to fill out a questionnaire, which is then reviewed to make sure Bendroflumethiazide is a suitable treatment for you. You will also need to upload proof that you have used this item before. If your order is approved, your Bendroflumethiazide can be sent directly to you.

Warnings and Precautions

Always take this medication exactly as directed by your GP.

Keep out of sight and Reach of children.

If you are taking any new medications even over the counter medicines whilst taking Bendroflumethiazide you should make your GP aware to prevent interactions.

Some patients experience spells of dizziness while taking Bendroflumethiazide tablets. Make sure this does not apply to you before driving a car or working with machinery.

How do I take Bendroflumethiazide Tablets?

Bendroflumethiazide must be used exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. If you are unsure contact your GP.
 

Recommended dose is usually:

ONE 2.5mg or 5mg once daily depending on strength prescribed 
 

• Best taken in the morning.

• It should be taken at the same time each day, with a glass of water.

What are the side effects of Bendroflumethiazide Tablets?

Common side effects:

• Dry mouth

• Increase thirst

• Nausea

• Vomiting

• Stomach pain

• Diarrhoea

• Loss of appetite

• Constipation

• Joint pain

• Dizziness

Allergic reactions to Bendroflumethiazide can cause:

• skin rashes

• viral infections of the lungs

• sensitivity to sunlight

• fluid in the lungs

Bendroflumethiazide can cause changes to your blood, which may show in blood tests.

Changes in the composition of your blood can cause:

• increased bruising

• sore throats

• nosebleeds

• infections

• tiredness

• breathlessness

• pale skin
