When should you test for ketones?

1. When you have a cold, the flu, or any other kind of illness

2. When your urine sugar test results show large amounts of sugar (2% or more for two or more tests in a row, or for several days in a row)

Ketostix urine analysis strips are easy to use. Here are the steps to use these strips:

1. Gather supplies such as a cup for a urine sample, a ketostix, and a watch/timer

2. Wash your hands with soap and water

3. Remove the strip from the plastic packaging carefully without breaking or damaging the strip

4. Collect a urine sample in the cup – the cup must be clean and dry

5. Dip the test end of the strip into the urine and remove it quickly

6. After 15 seconds, check the test strip’s color and match it with the color chart that comes with the package
